Vow of Poverty
All monks starting on the Tethir Road or characters who begin the monk class later in their careers are considered to possess the Vow of Poverty. Like paladins, monks are allowed to possess up to ten magical items at any given time and still receive their Vow of Poverty benefits endowed by their Monk Sash item. A monk who acquires more than the ten allowed items or who carries on their person more than ten thousand coins will be considered to have broken their vow. Material wealth drags down a monk’s spiritual growth, so even simply carrying too many items of great value will distance a monk from the benefits of their vow. The items need not be equipped.

This abandonment of material wealth allows any monk to acquire and activate special monk items that will respond to a monk’s ability to channel ki. Based on the monk’s class level, they will receive a scaling benefit from wearing the Monk Sash item.

Other monk gauntlet items may be crafted which can provide minor benefits to monks starting out.

More powerful ki weapons may be crafted in the spirit of the monk orders of the southern kingdoms. When the appropriate material components are acquired and gold and experience points are spent into these ki weapons, they can rival their magical counterparts with ease.
